New York Senate District 22 incumbent Marty Golden concedes to Andrew Gounardes
NEW YORK, NY - Today Marty Golden, New York Senate District 22 incumbent, conceded the race to State Senator-elect Andrew Gounardes. His concession comes two weeks after the Board of Elections announced an unofficial count confirming Gounardes’ win.
Steven Choi, Executive Director of the New York State Immigrant Action Fund, issued the following statement:
“District 22 residents made it clear at the polls that anti-immigrant, Trump sympathizers like Marty Golden are not welcome in our New York, and it was long past time that Marty Golden accepted that reality. Together with the other winners we've endorsed, we look forward to working with Andrew Gounardes as our State Senator to focus on what matters most: creating a New York that works for all, regardless of immigration status.”
For months, the New York State Immigrant Action Fund (Immigrant Action) rallied tens of thousands of New Yorkers to get out the vote for pro-immigrant candidates in swing districts from Long Island to the Hudson Valley, reaching nearly 55,000 New York voters in massive canvassing operations for candidates such as victorious Congressmen Max Rose and Antonio Delgado, as well as State Senators Andrew Gounardes and Peter Harckham.
